Our year 6 pupils returned to school today after a week of excitement and adventure in the Lake District! Determination, resilience, teamwork, cooperation our year 6s showed amazing maturity in overcoming all the tasks they were challenged with together as a group!
See below for a detailed account of our adventures!
Monday 11th September
What fun filled first afternoon in the Lake District! After a very long coach journey, we turned a corner to see the beautiful lake we would be staying on – we were so excited. We dropped our bags and got to know our instructors through team games and discussions about what we wanted to achieve this week. We all had a much needed dinner including a yummy jam donut and even managed to play some board games. However, the time eventually came to do the famous jog and dip. We ran down to the lake and inch by inch managed to get ourselves into the water! What an achievement! From children who struggled to swim to those who were really confident, everyone achieved something! We can’t wait for the rest of the week!
Tuesday 12th September
Our first full day at the Lake District! It started with a huge breakfast to keep us going all day long and room inspections. We still have a bit of work to do on keeping our rooms tidy! We then went off on our adventures. Some groups when sailing on the lake. It was hard work but we all managed to get across to the other side. From there, some groups explored the forests building shelters, making fire and playing games. Others scrambled up the mountain and really had to push themselves to reach the top. The views of the countryside made it worth it! Some other adventurers jumped off boats into the lake and walked up gorges to test their determination and resilience! It’s safe to say after all this we were tired so it was an early night for all after tea and juice.
Wednesday 13th September
We are halfway through the week and what a Wednesday we had! Everyone was tired when they woke up today but a good breakfast sorted that out! Then the groups went off and did their exciting activities. One group went on a steamer boat then did a long walk back with some team building and lunch in between. Others went gorge walking and battled the streams and rocks in their wetsuits. Another team canoed across the lake and did a long walk back to the centre. For our evening activities there were campfires, orienteering and even jumping and swimming in the lake. It’s safe to say it was an early night for all!
Thursday 14th September
Our last full day in the Lake District! After some breakfast everyone was excited to cram in as much as possible even though we were all feeling tired. Some groups went gorge walking. It was really challenging for them to climb up streams due to the rocks but with a bit of team work they managed it! Others went on big walking days and stretched their resilience. To end our time lots of groups has campfires with yummy marshmallows and one groups even jumped in the lake. Then it was a busy hour filled with packing before we set off back home tomorrow.
Friday 15th September
Well we made it! Our last morning in the Lake District. What a crazy week!!! We have stretched ourselves to the limit and been adventurers across the mountains and lake. After a quick breakfast and a manic hour packing everything in our cases it’s time to board the coach for the long journey back home. We will miss our Lake District home but can’t wait to see our family and get back to Star Primary! Goodbye Lake District and thank you for everything!
