What an adventure we have had in the Lake District last week. Using determination and resilience we experienced gorge walking, sailing, canoeing and diving off rocks! Who knew Ms Temi could climb a mountain! Teamwork and cooperation shone through each day. The landscape was spectacular with breathtaking views from atop the mountains. We will use this as inspiration in our art lessons this term. Each evening we sang songs and toasted marshmallows around the campfire listening to Mr Hwang play the guitar. The best educational visit we have ever been on and the perfect end to our time at Star Primary School.
See below for a detailed account of our adventures!
Monday 24th April
Our first day in the lake district went really well! After our 6 hour journey, the children were given the task of making up their own beds. They all did a fantastic job! We all had a tour of the site and then were faced with the dreaded jog and dip activity!
The children needed to jog around the grounds before plunging into the freezing cold lake as a team! Everyone rose to the task. After a shower, dinner and a walk around the hills, it was off to bed ready for a busy second day.
Tuesday 25th April
Day number two in the Lake District! The children got an early start at 7am with breakfast and room inspections. They all did really well for their first day! We then set off on our activities. Some teams went canoeing and diving off rocks. Others created fires and shelters in the forest. One group climbed a steep mountain and survived!!!
After a long day in the countryside, the children came back for dinner and lots of team building activities. They are getting better at team work everyday! Finally off to bed to get ready for an action packed Wednesday.
Wednesday 26th April
Day three! We are halfway through the week. Everyone was feeling slightly tired today so the children really had to push through to get up and focus on what lay ahead. After breakfast everyone set off on their activities. One group walked up a gorge and managed to find a beautiful waterfall at the end. Other groups rowed across the lake and even raced some other sailing groups passing by!! Some groups walked up the beautiful mountains and climbed the treacherous rocks!
After dinner, the children sang some songs with Mr Hwang and his guitar, played evening games and campfire activities and then went off for an early night before our final full day of fun tomorrow.
Thursday 27th April
Our last full day in the lake district! It was jam packed with activities so the children started with a big breakfast to get themselves fuelled up for the day. After room inspections, two groups took on the task of gorge walking. They took the time to get into wetsuits and waterproofs and off they went to the gorge where they battled rapids and waterfalls but had to support each other to get through it and reach the end.
Another group went mountain climbing. They used their resilience skills to scramble up a mountain. For moments it seemed like they couldn’t carry on but with teamwork they succeeded. Another group strapped on their walking shoes and set off around the lake. They were tired on their return journey but still made it! The evening consisted of manic packing and finding lost belongings from the week ready for our last morning tomorrow.
Friday 28th April
Our final day! What a week we have had! Everyone has pushed themselves out of their comfort zone, developed their independence and deepened relationships with friends ( even creating new ones)! We had our last breakfast and tidied up our dormitories. We met our teams for our final activities and farewells. There were reflection meetings and some last team building games on site. Finally we had our last goodbyes and collected our well deserved outward bounds certificates. The smiles and feelings of pride that were flowing through the children as we collected our suitcases and boarded the coach were fantastic! Goodbye Lake District!
